Are Måneskin The New Darlings Of High Fashion?
The newly crowned Eurovision winners bring a significant amount of rockstar power to the table. However, can they actually become the next rockstars of the fashion scene?
Yes, I know, the Eurovision Song Contest is always such a story. Most of the time, it's a super abstract performance by artists who will never land a hit again and the whole thing just has a big whiff of corruption about it. But believe me, this time it had a genuinely interesting band amongst it. The funny part of it: The odd group even won. But check out for yourself:
Recently still making music on the streets of Rome, then winning the Eurovision Song Contest and ending up with a drug scandal on the same evening: No question, we are dealing with real rockstars here. The Italians Måneskin have performed their way into the hearts of European music fans with their explosive choreography, power ballads, and disco beats.
Already known for his charismatic performance and the drug scandal on live TV - don't worry friends, obviously the test came back negative - lead singer Damiano David is the face of the four-headed band. However, the other members are just as electrifying: Thomas Raggi (right), Victoria De Angelis, and Ethan Torchio (left) support the band's 80's rockstar vibe with their looks, attitude, and charisma.
Match Made In (Fashion) Heaven
Youth fashion movements have been influenced mainly by rock stars since the mid-50s. Just remember Elvis Presley and his influence on the youth: boys wearing pink, zoo suits as a daily outfit and the epiphany that your wardrobe can differ from that of your pops. The King of Rock'n'Roll was followed by other great artists who wrote fashion history. For instance, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bowie, Stade, and many more.
Since the era of social media, however, this has changed drastically. Influencers and bloggers are the new style icons and musicians are dressed by their teams and stylists based on trends - not a negative development, but for sure a bit lame.
This tide could now turn with our Italo-Rockers. Måneskin has the potential and the look to become fashion icons. Their first big performance was oozing with drama, sex appeal, and style - we can only expect more from them in the future. The four musicians themselves also bring a great interest in fashion to the table - on Instagram, the band follows the main fashion houses such as Versace, Gucci, YSL, and so on.
Etro & the Måneskin
For the gig, they put on an extraordinary stage look, which quickly attracted a lot of attention. It immediately became public that the Italian fashion house Etro was behind the circus-inspired look with lots of exposed skin. Veronica Etro created the jumpsuits together with stylist Nick Cerioni.
Equipped with jumpsuits that flow optimally with the body shape and leave a lot of breast uncovered. Plus straps for the ultra high-waisted; all enriched with small studs and silver studs. Bassist Victoria, on the other hand, shows a deep and sexy cleavage. The iridescent skin of the insert only enhances her glam-rock character. The whole thing is rounded off with effective make-up: A good dose of black kohl underlines the initially tense and joyful and emotional look.
Personally, I'm a big fan of the Italian fashion support. Not only design-wise - where I think Etro hit the nail on the head - but also marketing-wise. It's simple: support your local dogs and get your local votes!
Hedi Slimane where are you?
Let's sum it all up for once: We have young wild rock stars who like to stand up for their opinions, don't shy away from scandal, bring charisma and fashion affinity to the table, and are just taking off. If designers aren't queuing up to work with them now, I don't understand the world anymore.
Personally, I already have the perfect match in mind: his name is Hedi Slimane and he currently works for Celine. You can see that now, too, can't you? It's obvious.
Aesthetically always very close to the 70s, the designer is quite familiar with rock: Many leather jackets, unisex pieces, silhouettes that are very figure-emphasizing and the like clearly make the designer's style the optimal uniform for Måneskin.
So I'm glad that we all can agree - or maybe also not - that we definitely want to see Måneskin in a Hedi-like leather jacket or one of his boxy suits as soon as possible. But well, once again we'll have to wait and see, but this time I'm actually pretty sure that this won't take too long.
Feel free to slide into my inbox for Måneskin gossip, theme inputs or to give me Hedi Slimane's phone number to tell him directly.
Love,
Pascal
