What’s in My Shopping Cart
The fashion months are almost over and spring has already greeted us once. Time to take a look at the trends for the new season — including an insight into my shopping list.
Top of the morning!
Grim Friday, black coffee, short conversations. That's exactly how I like my mornings in such cold temperatures. Actually, it would be a perfect day to rummage around in the past. Dreaming of better times and not thinking about the fact that it's below zero outside.
But I have obligations. Namely to you. And after a handful of people asked me whether I was going to write another trend recap of the coming season, I knew what was in store for me today.
In classic attitude, I'm preaching the colourful and unusual trends of the year in an all-black outfit. Pure bigotry. But trust me anyway, the trend angels want to see us running around colourful and fancy this summer. See for yourself:
Dopamine Dressing
Further away from the sandy colours, towards gaudy cheer-makers this season. There's even a plausible explanation for this: in difficult times (and we've had plenty of those in recent years), we look for joy wherever we can find it, including in our fashion choices. This colourful change of heart is also known as dopamine dressing for precisely this reason.
And that's exactly what the colour trend forecast of 2023 looks like. Ruby red, navy blue, yellow reminiscent of flower fields in bloom and shades of pink everywhere. But even my fellow radical minimalists don't have to worry, it's perfectly legitimate to wear a monochrome outfit this season. As long as the colour choices are in keeping with the theme of dopamine dressing. Ugh.
Hilariously Huge Hats
The chokehold that bucket hats have on our fashion won't go away. This season, too, this type of hat has dominated the catwalks. But, they are getting bigger. More colourful. More specific. Ergo, we've totally made it into irony fashion when it comes to hats.
But why not bring a little fun into the coming year? With headwear that comes low on the face and crochet or felt fabric, you're good to go. Hello grandma-core.
Retro Resurgence
Slim, thin, filigree, from decades past. You know what's coming next? That's right, sneakers of the year 2023.
What got its start last summer with the Adidas Sambas won't stop in 2023. Thanks to Kendall Jenner, Kaia Gerber and Bella Hadid, the retro hype in sneakers continues to rise. But the sambas themselves have slowly become mainstream: If you want to live ahead of the hype, you should pick up Loewe Flow Runner, Onitsuka Mexico 66 or a pair of Adidas Spezial.
And if you're not interested in a particular sneaker brand and are instead drawn to the trend colours of 2023, look out for nostalgic shades like teal, emerald, orange and cream.
Fuck-You Flip Flops
Your slides had a great run. But flip flops — the final frontier in so-bad-it's-good fashion — are really, truly cool again. In 2023, we can spread our toes again to live up to the hype. Already two summers before, flip flops had a small renaissance among Scandinavian influencers. Now they are back altogether. Preferably in a design with a Japanese touch.
Double Denim Disaster
Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears must be jumping for joy: Double Denim is back for good. And this is true for everyone. Really everyone. There is no limit to the jeans look this season.
But, so as not to repeat their 2001 American Music Awards disaster, a few tips: dark denim, good quality — preferably Japanese denim, and yes you can tell the quality —, wide-legged trousers, a tube top for women and a slightly cropped jacket for men. Tips for your safety, please, thank you, you're welcome.
